BSA coaches all have extensive experience with coaching various levels of youth soccer. In fact, many of our coaches are coaches of the Brecksville-Broadview Heights High School soccer teams as indicated below. Our coaches are all licensed youth coaches through US Soccer. They are all also invested in continuing their coaching education through licensure classes. 

Sean Broadbent

Director of Coaching

Boys and Girls Coach

Sean has been a staple in the BSA for many years. He started coaching in 2011 and came to the BSA in 2012. He was an assistant coach for the BBH High School for over ten years. He has coached travel and club soccer as well as coaching for the Olympic Development Program. His passion for soccer is apparent and he loves to teach young players the game. Sean is currently a Director of Coaching and Member At Large on the BSA board, as well as head coach of both boys and girls teams. Sean's licensure includes:

Alex Ramer

Assistant Director of Coaching

Boys and Girls Coach

Alex started playing soccer for BSA when it was founded in 2007. Throughout high school, he played for CVSA and BBHHS. He graduated from BBHHS in 2016 and went to the University of Michigan to study biomedical engineering and electrical engineering. He currently works as a clinical implementation specialist. Alex has been coaching soccer for 6 years and is enrolled in classes to continue growing his coaching licensure. Alex currently holds a C license. He is the current BBH High School Varsity Assistant Boys Coach and holds several roles within BSA. Alex is a Director of Coaching and Operations Manager, as well as head coach of both boys and girls teams. He really enjoys giving back to the community that was so influential in his childhood. 

Eric Lapsansky

Goal Keeper Coach

Coach Eric Lapsansky has been teaching Social Studies at BBHMS from 1997-present.  Coach Lapsansky has diverse experience in soccer, both playing and coaching in a variety of capacities.

Coach Lapsansky has spent the past 12 years coaching collegiately at all three levels DI, DII, and D III.  Previously, Lapsansky spent 12 years as the head coach of the girl's team at Brecksville-Broadview Heights High from 1999-2011, compiling a 142-57-26 record highlighted by a No. 23 national ranking in 2004 and was also named the NSCAA/OSCAA Ohio Coach of the Year that year.  He led the Lady Bees to a top 10 state finish eight times and was a six-time conference coach of the year, earning Greater Cleveland Coach of the Year honors in 2004 and 2007. 

As a player, coach Lapsansky was a goalkeeper and Academic All-Big East selection at the University of Pittsburgh (DI), Lapsansky also played for the Cleveland Caps in the United Soccer League.

Karol Byorka

Karol graduated from Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School in 2010. He continued his career as a student athlete at Notre Dame College and John Carroll University, and after his studies, had a brief spell playing in the lower professional leagues of Poland. Since returning in 2017, he has been working full time in soccer coaching, training, and directing. He has overseen numerous roles and responsibilities, which include creating individualized training programs for NWSL professionals and training them in their off seasons. Karol is entering his second year as head coach of the Brecksville-Broadview Hts. High School girls soccer program. 

Damian Dziubek

Coach Damian is currently the JV Coach at the Brecksville-Broadview Hts High School. He has been involved in soccer his whole life. He played as a young kid throughout high school and then he began coaching. Damian has six years of experience coaching club soccer throughout a variety of age groups. He has continued his soccer coaching education and holds his US Soccer D license. Aside from soccer, Damian enjoys hiking with his dog Tucker and spending time with his friends golfing.


Ariella Ponikvar

Girls Coach 

Ariella started her coaching journey at the age of 12 while playing youth soccer at BSA assisting with academy and street soccer weekly. As a Brecksville local she played with BSA (then BTSA) for the majority of her youth and continued her soccer career as a Varsity player for BBHHS. Post-graduation, she transitioned from player to coach, taking on the role of a head coach at BSA at just 18 years old while attending Cleveland State University and receiving her BA in marketing. Since then, Ariella has been coaching BSA girls' teams and was BBHHS Girls JV coach for 5 seasons. She currently holds her US Soccer D license. Her passion for the sport is evident, but her main focus remains on coaching to inspire young women, imparting both soccer skills and valuable life lessons.

John Farrell 

Boys and Girls Coach

John lives in Brecksville with his wife Melanie and kids Mack and Nora. He has coached soccer at various levels and clubs for the past 23 years. He has coached soccer at Chagrin Falls, Aurora, Parma, BSA and BBH High Schools over his 20 years in education. He played college soccer at Ashland University where he started every year. John holds a masters degree in education and teaches health and physical education in Aurora City Schools currently. John has a minor in coaching and has been a high school Athletic Director, Director of Coaching, Camp Director, and coached a large variety of sports and recreational activities throughout his career.    

Sage Patterson

Girls Coach

Sage Patterson is an alumna of BBH High School who continued her soccer journey at Ohio Dominican University and Cleveland State University. Since 2017, Sage has been a coach with Bees Soccer Academy (BSA), working with both boys and girls teams. As a coach, she is dedicated to enhancing each player's confidence with ball skills and their ability to anticipate the play. Sage also places a strong emphasis on team bonding and building meaningful relationships, fostering a supportive and cohesive team environment. Her lifelong involvement in NE Ohio soccer has fueled her passion for the game, which she now shares with the next generation of players at BSA. Outside of coaching, Sage enjoys crocheting, reading, and exploring the Metroparks with her dogs. She is also a proud holder of a US Soccer D License, reflecting her commitment to continually developing her coaching skills and knowledge of the game.

Justin Thacker

Boys Coach 

Justin has been coaching for 22 years. Justin was the Varsity boys head coach in Green from 2005-2012, and the Brecksville-Broadview Hts Girls Varsity Head Coach from 2013-2023.  Justin also served as president of BSA from 2015-2023, when he stepped down.  Justin's boys currently play in the program with the 2014 and 2016 teams.  Coaching youth soccer has always been Justin's passion, and helping kids grow in a game that was so good to him.  Justin's licensure includes:

Ben Kang

Boys Coach

Coach Ben first started in BSA as a player and then continued on to play soccer with BBH High School. He played club soccer through college and decided he would come back to the BSA as a coach. He has continued his soccer coaching education and received his D license this past year. Ben hopes to foster the same passion for soccer and team-based community that helped him break out of his shell and make friends along the way. He enjoys biking and playing video games in his spare time. Ben is also an EMT and is planning on going to Physician Assistant school in the near future.

Scott MacRaild

Boys Coach

Since starting to play soccer on a team in middle school, Coach Scott continues to learn and love the beautiful game. Scott has been coaching with BSA for one year and is currently enrolled in coaching classes to continue his coaching education. In the past, Scott has coached middle school teams, recreational teams and travel teams. With years of coaching experience across sports, levels, and ages, he wants to make sure your player has a positive, memorable experience growing through soccer like he remembers doing himself. Off the pitch, you'll find Scott playing soccer in the backyard with his kids, snuggling with his dog, Luna, or building something new in the garage! 

John Tascar

Boys Coach

Coach John has played soccer his whole life, starting when he was just a small kid! He played varsity for BBHHS for four years and then played Bundesliga, Baldwin Wallace and Notre Dame College. He has been coaching with BSA for two years and is currently working on his D licensure. His passion for the game is evident when he brings the skill plus the fun to practices and games. He is looking forward to watching the growth and success of his players and the club! John still enjoys playing soccer for fun and also loves to garden in his spare time.

Board Meeting Dates

Board Meetings are held the third Thursday of each month at Blossom Hill Field House.  All are invited to attend.
